Entity status is the current standing of a company in its registry — for example active, in good standing, dissolved, revoked or suspended. It reflects whether the entity has met its filing and fee obligations and is legally permitted to operate.
Status is set by the registry, not by the company, and changes as the entity files (or fails to file) annual reports and pays fees. A lapsed status can often be cured by bringing filings current.
For due diligence, status is a first-pass signal: an inactive or revoked entity may not be able to enter enforceable contracts in that jurisdiction.
