A NAICS code is a number from the North American Industry Classification System that identifies the industry a business operates in. Ranging from broad two-digit sectors to specific six-digit industries, it is the standard used by US, Canadian and Mexican agencies.
Agencies use NAICS to categorize businesses for statistics, contracting and regulation. A single company may map to more than one code if it has multiple lines of business.
On a company profile, the NAICS code is a compact, standardized way to state what the business does.
